Red Bull limits the damage in Monza: Vettel fourth, Webber sixth

Red Bull Racing managed to limit the damage during the weekend of the Italian GP in Monza on a track that, as expected, proved to be unsuitable for the Austrian team's package, penalized above all by the lack of power and reliability of the Renault engine. Sebastian Vettel achieved fourth place by exploiting a strategy that led him to make his only stop, mandatory by regulation, on the penultimate lap. Only sixth was Mark Webber who nevertheless returned to the top of the drivers' championship after Lewis Hamilton's retirement.

Sebastian Vettel
“Our strategy was a risk today, something that if it works you're a king and if it doesn't work it makes you look like an idiot! Luckily it worked and the team did a fantastic job. I had a bad start and lost a lot of ground. It was difficult to overtake, as we didn't have top speed on the straight, so we had to fight in the corners as much as possible. Then around lap 20 something happened to the car, I don't know what it was, maybe some friction, but fortunately the problem resolved itself. In the meantime I had lost contact with the group in front and the trail, so about three or four seconds. I had to recover from there and it was a tough battle. The cars in front stopped, so I stayed on the track to try to overtake them. We took a look at the timing and luckily it worked. So, we got good points and the maximum today, fourth place."

Mark Webber
“We could have picked up more points today, so it's a bit disappointing, but at least we picked up some. We got the start and the first lap wrong. I lost a lot of time behind Hulkenberg, he seemed to spend every second of the lap cutting chicanes, but the stewards let him do it which was frustrating. I finally passed it but lost a lot of time. I had a better day than Lewis and scored more points, but Fernando won the race. It's positive to have picked up some points, but he always wants more. It could have been worse for us today."
