Red Bull confirms that the meeting with Alonso's manager in Budapest concerned the Spanish driver

Red Bull has confirmed that the meeting it had with Alonso's manager at the Hungaroring concerned the two-time world champion driver.

Initially the story that Alonso could move to Red Bull was seen as a rumor, as Alonso's manager Luis Garcia also manages another talent in Red Bull orbit, the young Carlos Sainz jr.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, however, pointed out that it would not make sense for the meeting to concern a talent already under contract with Red Bull.

“It's nonsense. Why should we have talked about Sainz jr who has already been part of the Red Bull junior team for some time?”

In fact, Sainz jr drives for the GP3 MW Arden team, a team born from the collaboration of Mark Webber and Horner.

Clearly, Garcia and Horner may have been talking about more than Alonso, but Red Bull made no secret of the fact that the meeting was about Ferrari's number 1.

“I don't remember if we talked about Red Bull or Spanish red wine,” a mischievous Helmut Marko told Sky Germany.

With Mark Webber set to race at Le Mans next season, Red Bull is looking for a new second driver to join Sebastian Vettel, with candidates including Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo.

However, Horner reiterated: “We have never been under pressure to take on one of our junior drivers. We have won the world championship three years in a row and we want to make sure we are able to do so in the future too."

Therefore, the rumors surrounding Alonso and Red Bull are becoming insistent, even if we must not forget the words of Flavio Briatore, who declared that the Spaniard has a contract and must respect it (Briatore is part of Alonso's management, ed.).
