Red Bull will try to resolve the issues with KERS
Red Bull is confident that the issues with KERS will be resolved. The RB7 has dominated the 2011 season so far, but at the same time the team has faced consistent problems with this energy recovery system.
The team had a different approach with the KERS compared to its main opponents, reducing the weight and dimensions - consequently also decreasing the power - of the unit developed by Magneti Marelli, in order to maximize the aerodynamic package developed by Adrian Newey.
“I am still convinced that this is the right choice” declared the chief designer Rob Marshall to The Sun newspaper.
“Once we make it work, we will be happy with our choice. We didn't make any wrong decisions."
Adrian Newey however, he declared: “It needs a lot of research, a lot of development. He's not really our strong suit. We are more of a group of aerodynamicists, rather than a group specialized in KERS." The Englishman admitted that the project was followed by a small group of engineers.
“The group was probably a little too small,” Newey added.
