The Mercedes has a third pedal for the movable rear wing

Ross Brawn smiled when asked about a possible drivers' strike to protest against the complexity of using KERS and the movable rear wing in the 2011 Formula 1 World Championship.

“Maybe because it's difficult for some to operate on both! our drivers have no problems” declared Brawn.

The biggest complaints come from Red Bull while McLaren and Ferrari maintain that the new workload for the drivers is manageable.

Asked about Sebastian Vettel's complaints, Gerhard Berger speculated: "Maybe Sebastian is complaining because Red Bull is lagging behind in this area."

Brawn agreed: “Operating the buttons is probably complicated if the pilot has to press them all at the same time.”

McLaren's solution is a set of rockers behind the steering wheel while Mercedes has chosen to use a third pedal, to the left of the brake pedal, to activate the movable rear wing.

The idea will allow Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg not to mistakenly activate the wing when braking. And when they are "at full speed" it will be comfortable for the two drivers to put their foot on the third pedal during free practice and in qualifying.
