McLaren could return to orange livery in F1

Vodafone's farewell and probable divorce from Mercedes would bring Woking's historic color back to F1

McLaren could return to orange livery in F1

McLaren's F1 cars could return to an orange livery. This was revealed by team boss Martin Whitmarsh.

Although the Woking team's F1s have been silver since 1997, the brand's historic color is orange, dating back to the Can-Am period of the 60s.

After 2014, however, a divorce from Mercedes is likely. Whitmarsh said in Barcelona he could not comment on reports about the partnership with Honda since 2015, saying the matter was "confidential".

To those who asked him, however, whether the abandonment of Vodafone and therefore the entry of a new main sponsor could lead to a return to orange Whitmarsh replied: “I really like the idea. Orange is a fantastic colour, especially for McLaren. We use it in GT and it's fantastic, we will continue in this direction. F1 is a little different. The current business model is one of the team's main focuses: promoting our partners' brands. But if we are lucky enough to find a sponsor who likes orange, you will be able to see that color in F1 again."
