FIA will not sanction Vettel for insulting Whiting
F1's governing body has decided to pardon the German driver
La FIA decided not to sanction Sebastian Vettel after the insults to the race director Charlie Whiting during the Mexican GP, the letter of apology written by the German to Whiting was decisive in the decision.
The official press release from the International Automobile Federation reads:
“In view of the sincere apologies presented, the President of the FIA has decided, in a very exceptional manner, not to impose disciplinary sanctions on Sebastian Vettel.”
The news was already in the air given that an FIA insider had anticipated to the Reuters agency that the four-time world champion would not be summoned before the international tribunal of the Federation, which deals with disciplinary cases, on which the commissioners of race they cannot express any judgement, Vettel in fact risked a lot and there was even talk of a possible disqualification for a GP.
The source within the FIA, however, revealed that the German will be kept under observation and that any further outburst could cost the Ferrari standard bearer very dearly.
