The FIA will introduce a 10-place grid penalty for pit stop errors

I F1 team will be sanctioned with 10 penalty positions on the starting grid if they will allow the cars to leave the garage without a wheel and therefore in unsafe conditions.

The move was decided after the now famous accident that occurred at the German Grand Prix where a wheel lost from the Webber it hit a cameraman who fortunately did not suffer serious consequences from the accident.

Sources revealed that the FIA informed teams of the new penalty system during a meeting in Hungary.

Therefore, if a car leaves its lay-by and loses a wheel in any session, the latter will be punished with a 10-place grid penalty. Obviously, if the accident occurs during the race, the penalty will be valid for the next GP.

Other solutions have also been proposed to increase pitlane safety, such as a minimum pitstop time, but the latter has not found positive feedback from the teams.

Furthermore, within the meeting it was underlined just like in the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix, the Renault and Fernando Alonso they were involved in an episode in which the car lost a wheel. The teams underlined how at the time there were still fuel supplies, and therefore this effectively excuses the tire changes, although it must be underlined how this procedure has become increasingly frenetic over the last few years, precisely due to the absence of the supplies.
