The FIA investigates Hamilton's statements

The FIA is reportedly investigating the statements made by Lewis Hamilton at the end of the Monaco GP. After having suffered two penalties for the accidents caused in the Principality with Felipe Massa and Pastor Maldonado, the McLaren Englishman had complained to the stewards saying that he was constantly being targeted for his conduct on the track.

Hamilton also had an unfortunate line: “Why are they penalizing me? I don't know, maybe because I'm black. This is what Ali G says."

McLaren then apparently warned its driver that he risked sanctions from the FIA for violating article 151c which prohibits damaging the image of the sport and Hamilton returned to the circuit to explain his joke to the stewards.

However, according to the Telegraph, the FIA is "gathering all relevant information" regarding the episode.

On Monday, Hamilton apologized via English newspapers and Twitter to Maldonado and Massa, whom he called "ridiculous and stupid" after the match.

“Hey guys” he wrote. “I want to apologize for last weekend's performance and also for my comments, I didn't mean to offend. To Massa and Maldonado, I apologize if I offended you. You are both fantastic drivers who I respect a lot. To my lost fans and my new fans, I wish you nothing but love and joy."

Hamilton told the English press that he had lost control due to his style in the race: “I don't do it to offend people or hurt anyone. I do it because I love running. I feel like I can run better than others."

His desire to win in Monaco, once the domain of his hero Ayrton Senna, is more alive than ever: “In my heart I feel I can dominate on this circuit. I feel like I can be the fastest here. And I was, even without the fastest car."

“I got hit and my rear wing was coming off, they asked me to come in and retire, I refused,” Hamilton said. “At the first stop, I asked to go back in and there was no one there. So the tension rose again."
