Ferrari is still focusing on the 2010 season

Despite the lackluster performance in Turkey, Ferrari is not yet thinking of putting aside development work on this season's car.
During qualifying in Istanbul, Fernando Alonso failed to make it to Q3, while Felipe Massa qualified eighth, behind Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes and Robert Kubica's Renault.

For the Canadian Grand Prix scheduled for ten days' time, Ferrari will bring a new aerodynamic package with less downforce, while at the end of the month in Valencia the Scuderia will debut a completely updated car.

According to information from the Spanish newspaper AS, the Maranello team will bring a car to Valencia with a new rear profile and a new exhaust system.

Ferrari sporting director Stefano Domenicali has denied that the team intends to abandon the 2010 season if the new updates do not have the desired effects.

“We will not stop developing this machine,” he said.

Even though the Italian press speaks of a "disaster" and a "crisis," Alonso is only 14 points behind championship leader Mark Webber.

Domenicali insisted: “We will continue to work on the F10 until the end of the season.”

He told the lne.es website: “The championship is still open and we have seen that anything can happen in races. We won't give up."

Alonso agrees and believes that Ferrari can still fight for the world championship, although he later said that the updates brought to Valencia will probably not be enough to close the gap to the leaders in the standings.

“We know that Red Bull and McLaren are well ahead and we can't know if the updates will be enough. We have to work hard,” she said.

Al La Razon the Spaniard said: “We don't know how long it will take yet, but the truth is that we are 8 tenths behind the Red Bulls and 6 or 7 tenths behind the McLarens, and these developments will not bring us all these tenths.”
