Kubica free to leave Renault at the end of 2011

The Pole recently renewed the contract that binds him to the Transalpine team for two years but the clauses of the agreement include the possibility of releasing himself from the team if the car is not competitive.

The clause is similar to the one in force for 2010 which allowed Kubica to release himself from the team if he had not reached fourth place in the championship by 15 July. Renault is currently fifth, 20 points behind Mercedes but the car seems to be clearly improving and the team is introducing new details on the car at each race.

In 2011 the Pole should have an adjustment to his salary as well as Genii should increase its ownership shares in the team.

Meanwhile, Boullier, Renault team principal, had this to say about the renewal: “We are happy that Robert will remain with us for the next two seasons and I thank him for the trust he has shown in this team. Our clear objective is to become a team capable of fighting for the title. To do this, we need a driver of Robert's caliber: fast, absolutely committed and who doesn't make mistakes."
