Kobayashi: “We did well in extreme conditions”

Perez: "We couldn't complete our program"

Positive feelings for the Swiss team, with two riders in the top 5 in FP2 of the British GP: however the rain prevented testing the aerodynamic innovations brought here to Silverstone
Kobayashi: “We did well in extreme conditions”

Kamui Kobayashi is undoubtedly one of the heroes of the day in the first two sessions of the British GP. In fact, the Japanese driver from Sauber finished FP2 in second place, less than a tenth and a half behind the leader Lewis Hamilton.

“In wet conditions our car performed quite well, but it is difficult if not impossible to imagine what it would have been like on a dry track here at Silverstone”, Kobayashi said. “However, the conditions are the same for everyone, so we can't complain in that regard. Obviously we couldn't evaluate the new parts as we had planned.". The Japanese achieved his time by using Full Wet tires and not Intermediates like other big names. “In the end I fitted a set of intermediate tyres, but only to get a feel for their behaviour. It was definitely too wet for that type of compound. In general the circuit tends to develop small rivulets of water here and there, and even on the straights you have to be very careful not to lose the car through aquaplaning. It looks like we will have a wet weekend and that might not be the worst thing for us.", concluded the Sauber standard bearer.

But Sauber can also be satisfied with Sergio Perez's fifth place, who however claims to have been bored. “Yes, because of the rain I found the day very boring. There wasn't much I could do and it was impossible to complete our test programme, however, we did a few laps on the wet track and our car seems to be good in these very wet conditions.", commented the Mexican.
