Jenson Button: “McLaren is the best place to win”

Jenson Button and McLaren have signed a multi-year contract. The English driver arrived at McLaren as world champion in 2010, after winning his first title with the Brawn GP team in 2009.

Button has so far won four races with McLaren, and was in talks to extend his deal for a further year. McLaren officially confirmed the news, saying Button has signed a new multi-year deal.

Jenson Button is currently second in the standings behind Sebastian Vettel.

“I have never felt so comfortable as I did in McLaren Mercedes,” said Button.

“I've won four of the biggest races of my life here, I'm currently second in the drivers' world championship, and I feel like I'm riding better than ever.”

“It can only be achieved with the right level of support – and I truly believe that the passion and determination to win is stronger here at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes than anywhere else.”

“As a driver, these are incredibly powerful feelings and have only strengthened my desire to stay with this team long-term.”

“It is no secret that my ambition is to continue winning races and world championships, and I am confident that this is the place where I can realize these goals.”

“We at McLaren Mercedes know how to win, and we are committed to an organization that will allow us to continue to do this for years to come.”

Team boss Martin Whitmarsh added: “Jenson is a great driver and a great guy, in fact, I can confidently say he is one of the most capable and respected drivers we have ever had, and I am therefore very happy for him. We will continue to work with him in the near future.”

“I am sure that he will be able to build on other successes that he has already achieved with us.”

“I believe he and Lewis have mutual respect and trust, and once again, continue to demonstrate what we as a team have always known: That Vodafone McLaren Mercedes has the best drivers in all of Formula 1.”

Lewis Hamilton welcomed the news.

“It's great news that Jenson has chosen to stay with McLaren,” he said. “Jenson is a great person to work with, and a real team player, from the moment the team welcomed him.”

“Vodafone McLaren Mercedes is a team with a unique and successful tradition in Formula 1, which I am proud to be part of.”

“It was the best moment of my career when I won the drivers' world championship with this team. Jenson and I are as hungry and ambitious as ever to win races and world championships in the future.”
