Exclusive interview with Bruno Senna on the eve of the Indian GP

Exclusively for F1grandprix we bring you a short interview with Bruno Senna.

The Brazilian driver, Renault starter since the Belgian GP, talks to us about his expectations for the last races of the year, his return to F1 after the 2010 experience with the HRT and his future prospects.

– Do you feel ready to race on a new circuit? How did you prepare for the appointment in India?

“Learning new circuits has always been part of my short career and, in general, I can get to grips with it quickly, if there are no problems with the car. As for India, I 'tested' the circuit with the F1 2011 video game and rode around on site with my BMC bicycle, to get a first 'visual' feedback. I'm ready for Friday"

Your 'start' to the season was very good. A fantastic qualifying in Spa and a very good race in Monza. Afterwards it seems you lost a bit of feeling with the car. Do you need to clock up more miles or is there more to it?

“Singapore was also a very intense weekend, in terms of performance. However, it is natural, when you know little about the car, to do better on circuits that you know very well, rather than on others where you have only raced once and with a car that is not very competitive. Furthermore, we had technical problems in both Japan and Korea, which set me back a bit in terms of performance and development of the car in the race.”

– What are the difficulties in returning to racing in the middle of a season, without having tested and without being able to test?

“It's difficult to start in the current season because, in my case, I lack a lot of kilometers in terms of tire knowledge compared to the other drivers and I have no experience with the car development process. It is also very difficult to regain the pace in qualifying and the race after months of absence.”

– You lost many years of experience when you were younger. How do you feel now? Do you think you have 'made up' the lost time compared to the other riders or do you still feel a certain difference?

“I certainly feel the difference, sometimes I need more information than other riders, and especially during the race weekend I feel the lack of experience. At the same time, however, the fact of having been able to compete on equal terms against competitive drivers and with many more years of racing behind me makes me optimistic in thinking, over time, that I will be able to achieve good results."

What do you expect from the last three races?

“I think I can be competitive again for the last three races of the year. It is possible to get back into the points and every additional lap completed will help me achieve this goal. I am confident in being at the top for Brazil, to have an intense weekend in the last race of the year!”

Do you think you have a good chance for an F1 seat in 2012?

“I hope that my qualifying results give confidence to the team and that my race performances are consistent enough to remove any doubts about my driving skills and my competitiveness in F1. So far, the overall impressions have been positive and I hope to be able to improve substantially for the rest of the season!”
