Exclusive interview with Pastor Maldonado

A chat with the Venezuelan driver at Mugello

Exclusive interview with Pastor Maldonado

During the collective tests at Mugello we met Pastor Maldonado in the Paddock and had a pleasant chat with the Williams driver. Here it is for you. The video of the interview will be online soon!

First of all, Pastor, did you expect such a strong start to the season with your Williams?
PM: «Yes, I think we have worked so hard for this season that we deserve it, and much more. There is work to be done, of course, but the car came together quite well, especially in the race. We need to improve a bit in qualifying, and we are also working on other points. The weak point of the car, so to speak, because we are doing well anyway, is qualifying. We know how to react and we are working very hard."

Here is the performance in the race. How do you place your Williams in an imaginary race pace ranking?
PM: «We are among the best, not only in terms of pace and pace but also in terms of consistency. The degradation in the tires is not high, it is very low, thanks to the team and the way of driving the car, we are very happy with how we started. We had a bit of bad luck, but we are satisfied with the progress and let's carry on like this."

And now that the hot races are coming, in which tire wear will be a key factor, there will be fun for you, so…
PM: «I think so... let's hope so! From Barcelona everything will start from scratch, everyone will bring aerodynamic evolutions, new things, we'll see how we manage. We expect a lot from this car and this season."

What goals do you have for 2012? A podium?
PM: «Well, it's always difficult to make these predictions in Formula 1. Everything changes very quickly, but we hope to do well, to grow during the season and to be more competitive each time. As I told you we now have one step to be in the top five. We'll see where we get with developments."

One last thing, Pastor. Do you still think about the accident in Australia?
PM: «No, no, it's forgotten. It was a shame, we could have scored important points. But that's how races are, patience, you have to look ahead."
