Felipe Massa's former race engineer at Ferrari, Rob Smedley, will join Williams in the newly created role of Head of Vehicle Performance.

Williams confirmed that Smedley will “strengthen the team on track and support development work at the factory”.

Smedley therefore takes on a leading role in the garage and will guarantee the connection between the track and the factory in the most effective way possible.

Williams also confirmed that Richard Lockwood will join from Marussia, where he worked as a tire strategy engineer. He was appointed head of race strategy.

These are the latest in a series of moves to push the team back into the grid positions that matter.

“Williams is in a phase of change and these new appointments reflect how high our ambitions are,” Symonds said.

“We have a number of senior people coming in to help us pursue those ambitions and I'm extremely excited to welcome them on board.”

“2014 gave us the biggest change in technical norms that I have seen in my career, and so it will be important to add further talent that we already have here as we get ready to start the new season.”

“Williams has always prided itself on technical excellence and this latest announcement is part of our aim to bring the team success again. ”

The team also confirmed that 2013 Pastor Maldonado's race engineer, Andrew Murdoch, will work with Massa with Jonathan Eddolls continuing with Valtteri Bottas.

Xevi Pujolar, chief race engineer at Williams last year, has moved to Toro Rosso, where he will work with Jean-Eric Vergne.
