Two new circuits are being created in Spain and Portugal

The Iberian peninsula is increasingly interested in strengthening its presence in Formula 1, also through the construction of two modern racetracks. As for Spain, the town of Alcaniz - which belongs to the autonomous community of Aragon - has decided to compete with Montmelo, Valencia and Jerez, having just started the construction of a new 5.3km route. Author of the project Hermann Tilke, the "father" of all the most modern systems that are part of the Formula 1 calendar, who made use of the advice of the expert McLaren-Mercedes test driver Pedro de la Rosa.

Portugal's effort to see the Algarve racetrack completed, for which 200 million euros were allocated two years ago, is even more advanced. Located in the southernmost region of the continental part of the country, the new facility will be ready by next October, and track manager Paulo Pinheiro told the agency Reuters that we have already scheduled some commitments with Formula 1 teams. The Algarve track will have FIA certification and for this very reason the Portuguese authorities are dreaming of bringing the top series back to national soil, after the last race in Estoril in 1996: “The government will make its maximum effort to reintroduce Portugal into the Formula 1 circuit” – stated the vice minister of sport Laurentino Dias – “This circuit is suitable for hosting a vast range of motoring events, from the most modest to Formula 1".
