Despite an alleged veto placed by Ecclestone, the project to bring F1 to Qatar is about to become reality and apparently as early as 2016.
Having ruled out the possibility of racing in Losail, on the track used by MotoGP, the option of the newly built town of Lusail would have emerged instead, supported by the local government and FIA vice president Khalifa Al Attiyah.
Alongside the enthusiasm, however, there are some skeptical voices, above all that of Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, responsible for the Bahrain GP. “This sport is slowly increasing its popularity in our territory – he revealed at Autosport International – However, from my point of view, I don't think the country is ready to host another event”.
