Fuji will no longer host the Japanese Grand Prix

Toyota leaders have decided to no longer host the Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway, as reported today by the country's Asahi newspaper.

The circuit, located at the foot of Mount Fuji, received F1 in 2007 and 2008 and is expected to return to the calendar in 2010. An alternation scheme with Suzuka would begin this year.

The publication states that Toyota's decision was made to reduce the Japanese automaker's expenses. The move comes amid rumors that Toyota will not submit its entry today for the 1 F2010 championship. But a company spokesperson told the AFP news agency that the Fuji circuit "is already ' making preparations to host F1 next year.”

This week Toyota driver Timo Glock spoke out on rumors suggesting the Japanese brand's exit from the world of F1. “If I had to worry about these rumors I wouldn't be able to concentrate on my work,” he told the German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel, “and that wouldn't help anyone.”
