F1 teams concerned by PURE's hiring of Simon
Many F1 teams would be concerned about the hiring of Gilles Simon by Craig Pollock's PURE. The head of Renault Sport F1, Rob White, has admitted that the arrival of Simon as head of the new engine engineer who is preparing to enter F1 could be a threat to some sensitive data of the teams,
After leaving Ferrari, Simon joined the FIA as powertrain manager and worked closely with the teams on mapping and powertrain issues.
“It is a concern for all of us in light of the close relationships we have had with Gilles, we have guaranteed him unprecedented access to data” added White, “also in reference to the new turbo engines for 2014”.
“We would therefore like to be reassured that the data Gilles had access to in privileged circumstances as a representative of the FIA will not be used in his new role as an employee of a competitor,” White explained.
About 10 years ago the FIA's Charlie Whiting was barred from moving to an F1 team for the same reasons. White said hiring Simon presents “obvious risks.”
