Hulkenberg does not rule out a future at Ferrari

Nico Hulkenberg has not ruled out the possibility of joining Ferrari in the future. When the 25-year-old German moved from Force India to Sauber ahead of 2013, many saw a possible intervention by Ferrari due to the link between the Maranello team and the Swiss team for the supply of engines.

After Hulkenberg's arrival at Sauber, Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo said: "I'm very curious to see how Hulkenberg will go with our engine at Sauber."

Hulkenberg's start to his career at Sauber was a mix of ups and downs: he overshadowed his teammate Esteban Gutierrez but suffered from the fluctuating competitiveness of the C32.

When asked if he expected a similar situation when he left Force India he replied: “No. We are further behind than expected, we are not getting the results we wanted,” he explained to El Confidencial. And then on the possible move to Ferrari via Sauber: “I don't know, you should ask them. However, we are only at the beginning of the season, but I want to win races and fight, be champion one day. To do this I have to be in a great team. The future is open and it is necessary to do the best with the car you have every weekend."

Hulkenberg was dropped by Williams for the benefit of paying drivers: “I changed three teams in three years, I faced many changes: more than I would have liked” smiled Hulkenberg. “What happened with Williams was frustrating, there were no negotiations, I was left on foot. I had a good season but lost my seat for other reasons. In any case, it's part of the past and every driver's career in F1 is different, mine has had a lot of changes so far."
