Heidfeld is aiming for the Renault seat

Nick Heidfeld is in negotiations with Renault to race with the French team in 2011 alongside Kubica. Renault makes no secret of being dissatisfied with Petrov's results and will give the Russian one last chance this weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Heidfeld, who this year was first a Mercedes test driver, then a Pirelli tester and now a Sauber driver, admits that he is interested in the place in Renault but does not hide the difficulties in the negotiation due to the team's desire to have financial income.

Heidfeld: “For now it's my last race with Sauber, but in the circus you never know. For next year most of the seats are filled, but I am in negotiations with several teams. Renault is one of them and it would be the best solution for me but it is obvious that they are not only looking for talented drivers who are capable of having results on the track. Vitaly didn't offer an optimal performance this year but he had some strong arguments that secured his place."

Renault, through its team principal, confirmed the existence of the negotiation with Nick.
