Hamilton: “One of my most important victories”

Lewis Hamilton declared that the one obtained at the Hungarian GP is one of the most important victories of his career. The Englishman won his first race at the wheel of Mercedes in Budapest taking advantage of his third consecutive pole.

“We didn't test in testing, we were behind when we got here, we didn't expect to be on pole and we were surprised,” Hamilton said after the race. “I think it's probably one of the most important victories of my career. Coming to a new team and winning with Mercedes-Benz is a great privilege, the guys did a fantastic job. It's an incredible feeling and the team did an incredible job. We studied a lot last night, hoping that the tires would work for us. I had no idea it would go well, in the last 20 minutes I managed the tires and the race. I think you can say I was hungry today. I had to pass as many riders as possible, I usually get stuck but not today, I tried every overtaking possible. We still have to work hard, you never know how the tires will perform elsewhere. But if we could make them last today, we should be able to do it everywhere."
