Hamilton: “I'm happy at McLaren”

The Englishman intends to remain with the Woking team for 2013 as well

Hamilton: “I'm happy at McLaren”

Lewis Hamilton is convinced that his future will be with McLaren. Hamilton's current contract runs out at the end of 2012 and there has been no discussion yet about a possible renewal. But teased by the English press about the need to convince his boss, Martin Whitmarsh, the Englishman confirmed that he feels great with the Woking team.

“I don't need to persuade anyone, what the team is doing is fantastic. I couldn't be happier with this team.", Hamilton commented in an interview with the Times. After all, it would be emotionally difficult for him to leave the team that launched him and for which he has raced since he was a boy. “I don't want to leave, everything is better than this year: the team is stronger and the car has also improved, I myself have improved a lot. But there are no talks scheduled to discuss the renewal, we will do it before the end of the year".

What made Hamilton more serene was the visit of his father Anthony, a former manager with whom he had had an estrangement: “My father was in China and it's not a joke: we have renewed our relationships, they are good things which are then reflected in my performances in the race”, concluded the Briton.

McLaren's other driver, Jenson Button, who already has a deal until 2013 and beyond, has said he would like Hamilton as his teammate, despite his kind words for Fernando Alonso in recent weeks. “It's nice to have Lewis in the team, it creates competition and pushes the team to always get better”, said the Melbourne winner.
