Hamilton: “Withdrawal caused by damage suffered after the puncture on the second lap”

Lewis Hamilton ended with a retirement at the end of the German GP, but his behavior in the middle of the race, when despite being lapped he fought and overtook Sebastian Vettel in battle with Fernando ALonso, made all the Ferrari fans jump in their seats.

“The puncture on the second lap was incredibly unfortunate – there was debris spread across the width of the track and I had no choice but to continue straight through it. What's more frustrating? I was eighth and doing very well, so it's cruel as fate.", explained the McLaren Englishman. “It was immediately clear that my car didn't feel the same as before after the puncture. However, after a few laps, I was able to adapt my driving style, and the car had good pace in the middle stint. However, with the damage sustained at the rear, I think we were lucky to get this far, to be honest.".

And Fernando Alonso was very happy with how far he came, as well as with his pace, and was also ready to allow the Briton to double up, without taking any risks. “At least I could have some fun on the track, my pace was good enough to be able to match the leaders in the middle stint and it was encouraging for me, because we know that our car was really fast this weekend. A big thank you to everyone at the factory for all their efforts to give us the new parts on the car this weekend: we will put this breakthrough in our pocket and bring it to Hungary next weekend: the best news is that we will be able to demonstrate our potential already in five days", commented Hamilton.
