Hamilton: “No one knows how the tires will perform in the race”

The Englishman from McLaren is convinced that there will be many surprises on Sunday

The unknown of how the tires will function in the long term, which the teams were unable to test in today's free practice, will seal the fate of the Monaco GP on Sunday, according to the Briton
Hamilton: “No one knows how the tires will perform in the race”

Lewis Hamilton thinks uncertainty reigns at this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix, but with Lotus his more dangerous rival in his view.

“I think that today you can't really understand who is fast and who isn't”, said the Englishman from McLaren. “The Lotus is really fast. I'm not very sure what Red Bull can do, but I have no doubt that they will be fast, like the Ferraris. I think this will be a very close weekend and it's just a matter of getting into the fray at the right time and making sure we get the tires and brakes at the right temperature. The weather was very nice in the morning and we made some changes to the setup, but then it was quite a difficult day in terms of setup due to the changed weather conditions and the traffic out there. But it's always fun anyway, it's incredible to drive on this track.".

However, Hamilton admits that there will be many surprises in the race, given that no one knows the true degradation of the tires: “It will be difficult to understand the tyres, none of us were able to do a long run today. The other teams could do them in FP3, but I doubt it. So everyone will have to race blindly on the long-term behavior of hedges and there will be a big surprise for everyone, I think.", explained the Briton.
