Hamilton: “My best lap ever”

Lewis Hamilton described his final lap in today's British Grand Prix qualifying as his best ever after securing the second row with the fourth fastest time. Hamilton and McLaren were forced to give up the new updates brought by the team after yesterday's disappointing free practice.

The Englishman will however start 10 positions ahead of his teammate, Jenson Button.

“I'm really happy with fourth place, you won't believe it” declared Hamilton. “I'm so proud of my team, we pushed hard all year and in the last few days they pushed even harder to bring this update, which is an improvement, but which we were unable to exploit. And unfortunately we had to take it down last night. We knew it would be a long road. Red Bull is more than a second ahead and there were three teams with air diffusers blowing in front of us, so we did our best. I have to say it was my best ride ever. And I think it was possible thanks to all the fans who are here. The support we have on this track is nowhere else. The English fans are the best. I don't know how I got this far but I'm so, so happy. I think it's a great starting position for us. The race isn't over, those guys are clearly faster than us but we can still get a great result tomorrow” concluded Hamilton.
