Hamilton confirmed his desire to stay at McLaren

Lewis Hamilton has revealed he has assured Martin Whitmarsh of his commitment to staying at McLaren in the future. There had recently been talk of his possible move to Red Bull, rumors that the English driver quelled by snubbing the Austrian team: "It's just an energy drink company."

Mark Webber responded to the provocation on Thursday by replying "We're just an energy drink company" when asked in Melbourne about his chances for the 2011 World Cup.

“I spoke to Martin today because I wanted to reassure him that I will stay here at McLaren, I'm committed to the team, I'm committed to winning,” said Hamilton.

“I'm not thinking of going anywhere else, my people aren't going anywhere else and we're not doing any negotiations,” Hamilton added.

Whitmarsh confirmed the meeting with Hamilton and said McLaren was already aware of the driver's commitment.

“It wasn't something triggered by him, but nevertheless it was nice that he wanted to clarify his passion and commitment to the team.”

Hamilton, however, declared that he does not want to retire with only one world title won: "Look at Sebastian Loeb, Rossi, or Michael, they are the legendary drivers of their time and I want to be like them."
