Hamilton: “After the spin I thought I had lost pole”
The Englishman will start ahead of everyone at the Austrian GP
Mercedes double in qualifying for the Austrian GP. Lewis Hamilton beat his teammate, Nico Rosberg, at the Red Bull Ring. In an unusual qualifying finale, both Hamilton and Rosberg ended the session with spins but the front row was reached anyway.
“They were very difficult sessions, I think for everyone due to the track conditions. I'm happy that I was able to put together a good lap in Q3, I pushed hard in the first run, in the second I pushed a little too much and spun" declared Hamilton.
“Of course I thought I had lost pole at the time but I'm happy to have done a great lap on the first run in Q3. I don't know what happened, I locked the rear wheels and turned around. Something similar happened at Turn 2 last year. It happens to me often, I don't know why, maybe I have a big foot!” concluded Hamilton.
