Hamilton: “I would have opted for a more aggressive strategy”

Lewis Hamilton he would have liked a more aggressive strategy from the team in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after losing again to his teammate Nico Rosberg.

Rosberg turned his sixth consecutive pole position into a third victory in a row.

The Mercedes team extended Hamilton's middle stint to give him fresher tires to attack Rosberg at the end, but the world champion was unable to close the gap in the final laps and comes home second once again.

Asked about his strategy after the race, Hamilton said: “I did what I was told more or less.”

“I tried to push as much as I could in the first stint, maintaining a decent gap from Nico, watching the tyres.”

“The second part of the race I was faster, I got closer, with the tires having a longer performance”.

Hamilton had a verbal exchange with the Mercedes pit wall regarding his strategy before his final pit stop, and ultimately his request to continue on the same tires to the finish was overruled by Mercedes.

“The tires were good, so I honestly felt I could continue until the end. However, extending the stint before the final pit stop was not the best thing to do.”

Hamilton also said he would ask Mercedes why it kept changing the engine mode during the race.

“I'm not really sure why it was done. I will ask for explanations at the debriefing."
