Hamilton at the top with his Mercedes wins pole

The perfect partnership between Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes continues, protagonist on the asphalt in the first European race weekend of World F1 2014. The 2008 world champion won his fourth pole of the season on the Barcelona circuit and tomorrow he will start ahead of everyone to win another victory.
After dominating in Free Practice 1 and 2 on Friday, the British driver had given way to teammate Nico Rosberg in Free Practice 3.
But Lewis really doesn't want to know about being behind the German. A few minutes from the end he launched himself in pursuit of the fastest lap, grabbing pole, which is necessary on this circuit to get a good start in the race, given the few overtaking opportunities that the Catalan track offers.

“It was a tough day and Nico drove very well in the last part of Qualifying,” he began Hamilton, who is currently 4 points behind the leader of the general classification and his teammate. “I didn't know if I would be able to take pole, but towards the end I really got everything and maybe even more out of my car”.

“In the night between yesterday and today we made some small changes and luckily today the track conditions had changed compared to Friday. We made some adjustments to the differential in view of Q3: in the last run I gave it my all and I did it!”, declared the satisfied Mercedes driver.

“This weekend we didn't know how things would go,” he continued Hamilton, who after the short break between the Chinese and Spanish GPs was waiting to see how the updates brought to the track by the teams would work. “Seeing the development that is continuing to come and the hard work that has been put into this car again this weekend excites me – it's really something to thank the team for.”

“These performances that we continue to have… I have never seen anything like it,” he commented in the press conference. “They were two difficult days because the track conditions were not optimal but I am really happy to have reached this position”.

“I have never won on this track and I would love to because the support of my fans here in Barcelona has grown year after year… Tomorrow I will do everything to please them!”
