Haas fined for the wheel lost by Gutierrez during the Malaysian GP

The race commissioners have decided to fine Haas for the wheel problem suffered by Esteban Gutierrez during the Malaysian Grand Prix, the sixteenth round of the 2016 Formula One world championship.

The Mexican from the American Scuderia lost his right front wheel due to a mechanical problem with a nut. Gutierrez immediately stopped the vehicle for safety reasons, but the Safety Commission still decided to fine the team a total of 5.000 euros. Gunther Steiner, called to race direction immediately after the conclusion of the Grand Prix, explained that the problem was not attributable to human error, but rather to a technical problem with a nut and for this reason no penalty was inflicted on the driver. However, the team should have noticed the problem before completing the pit stop and for this reason Haas will have to pay this fine.

The team will also have to present a report explaining the causes of the wheel hub problem.
