Haas, Gutierrez: “It was the best lap of the season”

Excellent qualifying for Esteban Gutierrez on the Austrian Red Bull Ring track. In fact, taking advantage of the uncertain weather conditions, the Mexican from Haas managed to bring his VF16 to eleventh place. An important result that confirms the growth of the former Sauber driver during this central part of the championship. A different story, however, for Romain Grosjean: the Frenchman, who went off track during the first minutes of Q2, slightly damaged the surface on the gravel, losing precious minutes in the pits. The rain subsequently did not allow him to improve his best lap.

Here are the words of Romain Grosjean: “I was hoping for better. In my first run in Q2 with used tires I went off track. I damaged the bottom a little and took some dirt. We managed to repair the damage, but the rain didn't allow us to improve. It's a real shame because we start in a terrible position and with the awareness that we could have done better."

Here are the words of Esteban Gutiérrez: “It was the best lap of the season. It wasn't easy to get 100% but luckily we managed to complete a good qualifying. In some laps of Q2 it was even fun to drive the car. We hope to bring home some points in tomorrow's race. The conditions are certainly good."
