Grosjean: “It was a crazy race, but the team did a fantastic job”

The Frenchman from Lotus got the right tactic right and even came close to winning

Lotus guessed everything with the Frenchman's car in Montreal, and was able to complete 49 laps on a set of soft tires
Grosjean: “It was a crazy race, but the team did a fantastic job”

Romain Grosjean, like Sergio Perez, achieved his second career podium at the Canadian GP, but did so with an almost opposite strategy to the Mexican from Sauber.

The Lotus driver in fact made just one stop like Perez, but started on the Supersoft before switching on the Soft on lap 21, with which he completed 49 laps. And seeing the pitiful state of the tires of Fernando Alonso, who was easily passed by the Frenchman, one understands how the car from Enstone is really kinder to the tires than the competition. “We thought we'd go for a one-stop tactic and then see what would happen”, explained Grosjean, who finished the race just 2 seconds behind winner Lewis Hamilton. “The car was quite good, I was in battle with Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg, but I didn't know what they were doing. When Webber came in for his second stop, I didn't realize I was third, but my tires were pretty fresh. Then suddenly I passed Fernando Alonso, who was slowing down, and I was second. It was a crazy race”.

The 26-year-old nevertheless took his first career second place, which followed the podium in Bahrain and paid tribute to the efforts of the Enstone team. “The team did an amazing job to give me a car that was capable of minimizing degradation on its tyres. We knew that with the heat today the E20 would be better. It's a fantastic result", he added.
