Thursday statements

Romain Grosjean (Lotus): «I can't choose a particular memory of Jules, I have many. I remember meeting him for the first time in 2003, he was younger than me but much faster on the karts. Then he continued his career winning everywhere. The ceremony held on Tuesday was very touching, I think his parents were pleased to see us pilots."

Nico Hülkenberg (Force India): «He was my teammate in 2008, in F3, then in 2012 here in Formula One. I remember him in a race at Mugello 7 years ago, I was in my second year in the category, he was just a rookie. I started from pole, he behind me. I remember how he tried in every way to overtake me, he ended up burning his tires while I saved them, but that gave me the idea of the driver that he was. Even off the slopes I remember him as a nice guy, we spent some good moments together and now everyone will miss him."

Felipe Massa (Williams): «For me Jules was, first and foremost, a great friend. When I met him for the first time he was still racing karts, I started working with him. He was kind off the track and a fantastic driver. Unfortunately he didn't have the opportunity to demonstrate his worth on board a competitive car, showing his true talent... Only in Monaco did he have the opportunity to do so, leading Marussia to points for the first time. It wasn't easy to show up at church, with such a dark atmosphere. I want to imagine him happy somewhere, up there, while he runs and has fun and watches us."

Roberto Merhi (Marussia): «The first time I saw Jules was in 2002, during a karting race held in Spain. He came from France and had never seen the track, yet he surprised everyone by showing himself to be fast right from the start. From then on I followed him, he was 'Il Pilota', the point of reference. In 2007 we ran some races together in Formula Renault, where he won. The same in 2009 in F3, where he grabbed the title beating many other good drivers. For me it was a shame that he couldn't show his talent in Formula One as he should have. I hope he's in a good place now."

Felipe Nasr (Sauber): «I met Jules for the first time during a non-championship kart race, where Massa was also present. There I could see the special person that he was, not only for the ways he acted but also for the techniques he used on the track, in the way he drove. We were not the same age but for me he was the point of reference as for Mehri. He had all the requirements to be a good Formula One driver and fight for something big in the future. I wish his family all the best."

Sergio Pérez (Force India): «I met him during GP2, where we both raced. Then we refined our relationship thanks to the Ferrari Driver Academy: he was a special person, everyone liked him. He didn't have enough time to show what he was capable of, he would have been a future champion. We shared several moments as drivers - from Friday to Sunday during the race weekends, more or less every 15 days - not seeing him anymore is a hard blow. His family is now our family and we must do everything to support them, Jules will be with us forever. I think of what Jules did in motorsport… he was a great ambassador for that and he will remain in our hearts forever."
