Spanish GP, Hamilton loses pole
Maldonado will start first ahead of Alonso
di Staff12 May, 2012
Lewis Hamilton was relegated to the back of the grid at the Spanish GP after failing to complete the pit lap at the end of qualifying. The Englishman therefore lost pole position to the Venezuelan from Williams, Pastor Maldonado, who will start in front of Fernando Alonso's Ferrari.
Hamilton was demoted because his car did not have a sufficient quantity of petrol to take the one liter sample required by the regulations.
Here is the updated starting grid:
1. Pastor Maldonado Williams-Renault 2. Fernando Alonso Ferrari 3. Romain Grosjean Lotus-Renault 4. Kimi Raikkonen Lotus-Renault 5. Sergio Perez Sauber-Ferrari 6. Nico Rosberg Mercedes 7.
