GP Singapore, Free Practice 1: Hamilton in the lead ahead of Vettel and Webber

Free Practice 1 on the Singapore track, the only night event of the 2011 World Championship, ended a few minutes ago.

Testing began half an hour late due to problems exiting turns 3 and 14. The commissioners removed the curbs, authorizing the drivers to use the asphalt even beyond the white line at the exit. Additionally, the first session was shortened from an hour and a half to just one hour.

Testing was interrupted for a few minutes in the middle of the session due to a fire on the right front brake of Kovalainen's Lotus, and eight minutes from the end due to a new problem with a curb after Felipe Massa jumped over one.

In this first one-hour session, Lewis Hamilton took the lead, followed by Sebastian Vettel (with a new helmet) at 4 tenths and Mark Webber a second and a half behind.

For the Ferraris, fourth place went to Fernando Alonso (a different helmet for him too) and sixth to Felipe Massa

This could be the only dry day, given that the weather forecast indicates heavy rain for tomorrow and Sunday and the humidity on the track is already over 60%.
