GP Monaco, Free Practice 1: Ferrari in front with Alonso

Best time for Fernando Alonso in the first free practice session on Thursday of the Monaco Grand Prix. In Monte Carlo the Ferrari driver lapped in 1.15.927, ahead of Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull and Robert Kubica's Renault by a few thousandths.

Although the session got off to a slow start, with no riders attempting a fast lap until the first 20 minutes, times dropped quickly as the field began to run consistently after the first 30 minutes. Felipe Massa and the Mclaren duo alternated the lead several times, before Robert Kubica took the lead with Renault.

The Pole was then beaten by Alonso 20 minutes from time.

Vettel seemed capable of beating the Ferrari driver in the final minutes but was 73 thousandths slower.

Fourth time for the winner of Barcelona, ​​Mark Webber, despite complaining about traffic problems. Massa with the other Ferrari and Michael Schumacher with the Mercedes complete the top 6, ahead of the two McLarens, Adrian Sutil's Force India and Buemi's Toro Rosso.

Troubled session for Nico Rosberg who spent most of the 90 minutes of testing in the pits and then finished in 11th place.

Despite fears of chaos on the track due to the poor performances of the new teams, the session took place without incidents or incidents worthy of note, apart from the inevitable exits at the chicane.

The only drivers involved in contacts were Karun Chandhok (HRT), who spun and grazed the barriers at Massenet, and Kamuy Kobayashi (Sauber), who jumped the curbs at Piscine on his last lap.
