Malaysian GP, Vettel: "From fifth place we can still do a lot"

Fifth place in gray is definitely not the result he expected Sebastian Vettel, visibly disappointed from a qualifying which once again demonstrated how the Red Team is less competitive in this aspect than Mercedes and Red Bull.

The second row seemed an objective within Ferrari's reach, even if from the third free practice session it was clear that the fight with Red Bull would have been very close: “It's no surprise to see the Red Bulls ahead of us. We were very close. I'm a little disappointed because we thought we could be on the second row with the Red Bulls. Since Q1 we have been behind, we got closer to them but it wasn't enough” commented Vettel after qualifying.

The German is still quite satisfied with his last attempt in Q3, although he believes there was still room for improvement: “Overall I'm pretty happy with the ride which I did, but I was one or two tenths away from being on the second row. I certainly could have earned this tenth somewhere on the track, but it was a good session and the fight for tomorrow's race should also be very close."

The battle seems open tomorrow, as the Red team proved to be competitive in terms of race pace, especially with the soft compound, against the two rival teams: “We'll see. From fifth place we can do a lot, it certainly depends on the race pace” – commented the four-time Ferrari world champion -. “First of all we need a good start and then we'll see. It's a long race, so a lot can happen. It will be interesting to see what the conditions will be tomorrow."
