Qualifying for the Malaysian GP gets off to a bad start for Ferrari. The Maranello team chose to immediately use a set of soft tires with both drivers. In the final seconds of the session, however, while Ferrari decided to save a set of tires for the race by remaining in the pits, the other teams made the most of the second set of tires and Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa closed the session on 14th and 16th place respectively. The Brazilian was therefore eliminated in Q1 and will start from the eighth row tomorrow.
In Q1 Brawn GP returned to offering excellent performances. Button was in the lead for a long time and in the end Barrichello achieved the best time ahead of the Toyotas of Glock and Trulli.
