British GP: Maldonado excluded from qualifying

Pastor Maldonado has been ruled out of qualifying for the British Grand Prix after his car failed a post-session technical check.

The Venezuelan who ranked 15th on the starting grid stopped on the track when his car was low on fuel, following an error by Renault on consumption calculations.

But with cars needing to provide a minimum one-litre fuel sample, this meant Maldonado was unable to complete the fuel checks which take place after qualifying.

A statement released by FIA stewards reports that Maldonado has been excluded from the results, but will be able to take part in Sunday's race.

“The competitor is permitted to start the race from the back of the grid ahead of all cars that failed to set a time within 107 percent of the fastest time in Q1.”

This means Maldonado will start 20th on the grid, as neither Caterham of Marcus Ericsson and Kamui Kobayashi completed a lap inside 107 per cent in Q1.
