Japanese GP: a volcanic eruption could cause disruption

A volcanic eruption could affect the Japanese GP weekend. On Saturday, Mount Ontake, located less than 200 km from Suzuka, erupted, causing 36 victims and several dozen injuries.

Smoke and sulphurous gases are still being released from the volcano and at the very moment in which most of the Circus staff were traveling to Japan many flights were delayed or cancelled.

“The organizers hope that all drivers will be able to arrive in time for the first free practice session” we read in the German newspaper Bild.
