Japanese GP, Free Practice 1: Button in front, accident for Vettel

Jenson Button set the fastest time in the first free practice session of the Formula 1 Japanese GP. At Suzuka, McLaren took a one-two finish in the first free practice session on Friday with Lewis Hamilton behind his teammate. Bad start to the weekend for Sebastian Vettel who ended his session in the Degner barriers.

The third-placed German ran wide on his final attempt at Degner 1, and was therefore unable to slow his Red Bull at the next corner. There was little damage to the car.

Button was fastest for most of the session and dropped to 1.33.634 on the final lap. Hamilton is just 91 thousandths behind while Fernando Alonso is fourth with Ferrari ahead of Mark Webber.

Excellent sixth time for Jaime Alguersuari with the Toro Rosso, ahead of the other Ferrari of Felipe Massa and the other Toro Rosso of Sebastien Buemi. Michael Schumacher (Mercedes GP) and Vitaly Petrov (Lotus Renault GP) completed the top 10.
