Italian GP, ​​Sticchi Damiani: “Imola was plan B”

In recent months the organization and renewal of Italian Grand Prix was one of the topics of greatest interest within the Formula 1 paddock, thanks to the many difficulties in finding an agreement.

Due to continued delays with Bernie Ecclestone in signing the contract, i promoters of the Imola circuit had come forward to explore the possibility of the Grand Prix of Italy could move to Emilia Romagna, leaving its "historic" headquarters in Brianza. After accusations regarding financial issues and the division of funds for the organization of the event, the organizers of Imola were even went so far as to appeal, collected yesterday. Today, on the occasion of the presentation of the 87th edition of the Italian Grand Prix, Angelo Sticchi Damiani also wanted to talk about Imola's candidacy: "I find it legitimate that Imola has tried and is trying to have a Grand Prixor at their home, but with appeals it is difficult to find agreements. We did what we had to do. Imola would have been an excellent fallback solution if the agreement for Monza had not arrived. It was option B, but in the end option A materialized, and we must take note of this. I don't see alternation as possible either, because it would displease two organizers instead of one. When we get to the signing of the contract we will be able to say that too Ecclestone will have made his choice” commented the president of the ACI.
