chronicle
Cloudy skies and a few drops of rain at the start. At the start Hamilton maintained the lead ahead of Vettel, Button, Webber, Massa and Alonso.

Massa overtook Button and Webber to move into third position at Turn 3. Shortly afterwards Vettel overtook Hamilton into first position while Webber overtook Button and Massa to gain third position by taking advantage of the battle between the two. Bad start for Button who lost three positions during the first lap, dropping to sixth position behind Alonso and ahead of Rosberg, Petrov, Di Resta and Schumacher.

On the fifth lap the German easily overtook Di Resta. The Scotsman was then overtaken on the eighth lap also by Alguersuari. On lap 11 Button approached Alonso and attempted his first attacks on the Spaniard. Massa, having trouble with his tyres, slowed both down for several laps. Button then decided to return to the pits on lap 14, imitated by Nico Rosberg who however chose to fit soft tyres. The two traveled the pitlane almost together, Rosberg managed to exit the pits first but made a mistake and Button managed to overtake him. Shortly afterwards, however, Rosberg regained his position. On lap 15 he also stops for Webber and Massa. The Australian mounted soft tyres. Shortly afterwards Button overtook Rosberg in seventh place at Turn 3 and on lap 16 Hamilton also completed his stop still on supersoft tires while Alonso put on soft tyres. On lap 16 Button overtook Sutil at Turn 3 to take fifth place. Vettel stopped on lap 17 still using supersoft tyres. Shortly afterwards the safety car was on track for an accident between Petrov and Schumacher: the Russian violently hit the rear of the German's car, forcing him to retire. Petrov instead returned to the pits to replace the tires and nose but damage to the suspension forced him to retire.

After the first round of pit stops Vettel preceded Hamilton, Webber, Button, Rosberg, Massa, Alonso, Alguersuari, Di Resta, Sutil.

The race restarted on lap 21, Button immediately tried to attack but Webber defended himself well. On lap 27 Rosberg came to a standstill and was overtaken by the two Ferraris. Alonso also tried to overtake Massa but the Brazilian defended himself.

Meanwhile, Webber got closer to Hamilton while Vettel maintained a lead of around 1 seconds.

On lap 28 Rosberg stopped for the second stop. On lap 32 Hamilton defended himself from Webber's attack at Turn 3.
Nice duel between the two also in the following lap. Both then pitted on lap 34, using soft tyres.

The battle resumed upon returning to the track with Webber who managed to come alongside the Englishman several times who however defended himself hard. On lap 35 Vettel returned for his second stop, as did Button and Massa.

Alonso stopped on lap 38m and returned to the track in fifth place ahead of Massa. The Spaniard then began his progression by recovering many seconds on Button and reaching 1 on lap 8. On lap 47 Webber managed to momentarily overtake Hamilton at Turn 49. However, the Englishman responded immediately by overtaking him on the opposite straight using the DRS.

At the end the group made up of Hamilton, Webber, Button and Alonso regrouped. The Spaniard tried to catch up with the Englishman but in the end he decided to give up. Positions unchanged at the end despite the minimal gaps. Vettel then went on to win solo, 11 seconds ahead of Hamilton. Webber was also on the podium with Red Bull which therefore won the constructors' championship. Fourth place for Button ahead of Alonso and Massa. On the last lap Alguersuari managed to overtake Rosberg.
