GP Korea: the country's political tensions do not threaten the event

The organizers of the Korean Grand Prix, which will be held in October, have downplayed the rumors regarding a possible exclusion of the event from the calendar.

F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone recently traveled to Korea and personally checked out the progress of construction work on the entire facility and firmly rejected rumors that the work will not be completed in time. .

What really scares the experts about the work are the continuous political tensions between North and South Korea, currently recurring following a mysterious sinking of a South Korean ship by the North Koreans, the latter have reacted to the accusations by threatening to 'another part of real war!

Ecclestone spoke about the event by discussing the deal with some journalists: "if there is a war, obviously F1 will not move to Korea".

Last Wednesday, the North Korean UN ambassador met with the general chief at the UN headquarters, threatening the latter to take military action against South Korea if the neighboring state were to sink one of their boats again.

The teams have many problems to solve: they would have to rent flights, hotels, vehicles in Korea in preparation for this event and such an unstable situation certainly does not help the environment, even if the race organizer downplays the actual problems.

“We are extremely satisfied with the progress of the works on the circuit, the structures and the preparations in general. Everything should be ready for this summer and we have not encountered any obstacles, neither logistical nor political” – these are the words of their delegate Yung Cho Chung.
