Korean GP: The track will be ready for FIA inspection

The new Yaongam circuit which will host the first edition of the Korean Grand Prix will be ready just in time for the FIA inspection scheduled for the beginning of next week, this was confirmed by Kim Jae-ho, directly involved in the organization of the race.

The track has suffered major construction delays and the FIA inspection, usually scheduled months in advance for new circuits, was postponed just ten days before the start of the event.

Kim Jae-ho, during an interview for the Korea Times, explained: “The track is 98-99% ready. All that remains to be worked on is the surface of the track to deposit the surface layer of asphalt. Other less important things will be left out, we believe the inspection team will focus on the safety and suitability of the track and facilities for Formula One."

Work on the final layer of asphalt began two days ago and will hopefully be finished just in time for the inspection.

Then, Kim continued: “We did everything we could to keep the date. For us the real problem was the time factor: it rained too much. It was very different compared to previous years. Frankly, we in Korea have little experience in building race tracks. However, despite construction delays, the track and venue will be able to offer ideal conditions for the race."
