Mark Webber set the fastest time for Red Bull in the first free practice session of the Brazilian Formula 1 GP in a session characterized by good weather conditions. Webber lapped in 1.13.811, overtaking the two McLarens of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton who finished in second and third position respectively ahead of the other Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel. McLaren and Red Bull dominated the top positions already after the first half hour with Hamilton leading Button for around 15 minutes before Vettel took the lead.

Button then overtook the world champion after the first 60 minutes with Hamilton closing in behind him before Webber got the better of him.
