Baku GP: free practice 1 cancelled
For safety reasons, after the bottom of Russell's Williams broke due to a manhole cover
What happened on the Azerbaijan circuit was sensational. Due to the leakage of a manhole, the bottom of George Russell's Williams broke and after the display of the red flag, the Race Direction decided to cancel the session to allow the workers to check all the manholes on the circuit ( around 300).
Shortly before the suspension of the session, the best time was set by Charles Leclerc, first in 1.49.134, then improved to 1.47.497, followed by his teammate, Sebastian Vettel with 1.49.598.
About twenty minutes after the start, Charles Leclerc, innocently, passed over a manhole, raising it slightly and this was enough to cause the bottom of George Russell's Williams to break. And as if that wasn't enough, the recovery of the car was also unsuccessful, as the tow truck hit a bridge when returning to the pit lane. A truly embarrassing situation…
The damage to the Englishman's car has not yet been made known but from the first images, it is not known exactly whether Russell will take part in the second free practice session, scheduled for 15pm.
