Abu Dhabi GP: Vettel on pole ahead of Hamilton and Alonso, Webber only fifth

Pole position for Sebastian Vettel in qualifying for the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi GP. The Red Bull driver lapped in 1.39.394, beating Lewis Hamilton's McLaren. Third position on the grid for Fernando Alonso's Ferrari, however satisfied compared to the fifth position of Mark Webber, his main rival for the drivers' title and also behind Jenson Button, fourth with the other McLaren. Sixth position for Massa (Ferrari), ahead of Barrichello (Williams) and the Mercedes of Schumacher and Rosberg. Petrov's Renault closes the top 10.

In Q1 Alonso was the last of the big names to enter the track. Hamilton took the lead with 1.41.245 ahead of Barrichello and Vettel. Duel in Toro Rosso at the end: Alguersuari managed to beat teammate Buemi to 17th position which earned him passage to Q2. With time up, Rosberg also moved into second place behind Alonso.

Buemi, Trulli, Kovalainen, Glock, Di Grassi, Senna and Klien eliminated.

The two Ferraris of Massa and Alonso were immediately on track with the Spaniard in the lead with 1.40.475, beaten shortly afterwards by Button in 1.40.267 and then in 1.40.156 while Hamilton ended up wide, nullifying the second timed lap.

At the end Hamilton improved his time but remained second while Alonso climbed to third position ahead of Button and Webber, only fifth and more than half a second behind Vettel who therefore took his 15th career pole in the final and decisive race of the 2010 world championship.
