Gene Haas is already thinking big: “My team can compete with the big teams”

A revved-up Gene Haas, logically enthusiastic about the debut of the team that bears his name and of which he is the owner. Romain Grosjean, thanks to an almost perfect race strategy, gave the Ferrari-powered Haas an excellent sixth place in Melbourne.

A debut that surprised everyone, primarily Gene Haas himself who exclaimed immediately after the race: “You gave me a black picture of F1; since it's not that difficult?”. The team has also suffered some criticism and attracted a bit of envy due to the very close relationship that binds it to Ferrari, to the point of being considered a satellite team of the Cavallino.

The owner of the Yankee team, meanwhile, raises the bar, overwhelmed by enthusiasm and sure that the team is already a solid and competitive reality

"The team in Melbourne demonstrated that it can compete with the big teams in the championship - Haas told Autosport - We entered F1 at the right time, when we were ready and without unnecessarily speeding things up. Sixth place is a result of the good work done by many people, for a car that has a good chassis, good aerodynamics and a good engine, that of Ferrari. There are still some things to work on, small reliability issues we had during testing. However, the chassis in F1 is fundamental and I think ours is quite good. By finishing sixth we proved that we are a serious team that can compete with the best. Now the team has more confidence and will support the drivers as much as possible. In Australia we finished sixth, I don't see why we couldn't fight for fifth place in Bahrain."
